This is a family story and a story of the 20th century at the same time. They live through extraordinary events and times, and face tragedy upon tragedy, yet it’s how alike their family could be to anyone reading that makes the story so intriguing. However, this collection only includes one of Pauline Baynes’s illustrations per story, so I would not blame you if you wanted to buy all the (recently) colorized classic versions for the complete illustrations - that’s what my family did. This collection is handy because you will save yourself some money and shelf space over buying each of the books individually, and if you don’t happen to have any kids around, the cover looks like a modern adult fantasy title, so you can carry it around without a whiff of sheepishness. Luckily, they didn’t disappoint and my kids enjoyed them right along with me. And reading the books now was indeed like reading them again for the first time, as I had forgotten so much about the stories. I loved Narnia so hard when I was 10 years old, I remember being devastated when I took the last book out of the library and there weren’t any more to look forward to. These are the books I chose when asked the question, “What book do you wish you could read again for the first time?” Since my children are the age I was when I first read these, I recently got that chance. This is all seven Narnia books in one 768-page paperback. Owner Kelley Drahushuk: I’m giving you a classic because it is top-of-mind for me, having just read it. Book pick: “The Chronicles of Narnia,” C.S.
